For more Freedom in Feminism
Written by Harita
Illustrations by Annika Gemlau
Editor: Dongnyok Publishers, Seoul/South Korea
As a result of friendship, neighbourhood and shared feminist ideas and activities, Harita first asked me to design the cover of her publication. She is not only telling the story of a self-empowerment from sexual abuse and the damages of sexualized violence to the achievement of healthy body relationships, but also she is offering lots of different inspirations and strategies to overcome the often negatively influenced connection to our bodies and sexual partners.
Quotations from the Press Release: A New Book from Harita
„In this book, the author demonstrates through her own experience how feminism can be incorporated in everyday life. It tells how to live life with dignity without succumbing ti the dangers of being consumed by anger or cynism about the violence omnipresent in our modern society. There is no single answer, no panacea for the soul, but rather it is a book that shows a direction for sexual liberation that is well worth pursuing.“
„The book is illustrated with 14 original paintings by local artist, Annika Gemlau. Annika, who is a close feminist companion of Seyeon, is cultural anthropologist as well as co-founder of the Sheherazade – Anarchistic Feminist Reading Circle in Freiburg. She has taught herself diverse painting skills and freely experimented them everyday. Based on deep conversation and Harita’s photographs and storylines, Annika created unique images that dynamically change over the pages of the book. These two women made a special space for their deep communication and co-work, and fullly enjoyed the creative moments.“

All my gratitude goes to Harita. For her great work and her courage to take this artistic and personal challenge. And I also want to thank Mihye Choi of Dongnyok Publishers for her patience, her intuition to get the best out of this triangle cooperation and her courage to dare something new with this book. It would be awesome to translate Harita’s work into English or German and publish it in Europe.
